The route starts close to the village of Patara Khanchali (in Ninotsminda Municipality) and finishes at the left side of the weir on Khanchali Lake.
The trail runs along the lakeside at 1920 meters above sea level. Many species of endangered birds use this lake during the migration and mating seasons. The river Agrichai flows from the north-west end of the lake, eventually joining the river Faravani.
It is also possible to take a southerly direction from Khanchali Lake in order to join the Tiger Canyon trail.
